Romantic comedy set in New York and Down South. Fashion designer Melanie Carmichael (Witherspoon) is engaged to the city’s most eligible bachelor. But her past holds many secrets, including the redneck husband she married in high school, who refuses to divorce her. Bound and determined to end their contentious relationship once and for all, Melanie sneaks back home to Alabama to confront her past, only to discover that you can take the girl out of the South, but you can never take the South out of the girl.

It used to be Meg Ryan but now, the irrepressible Reese Witherspoon has to be the premier comedic actor around at the moment. She could clearly read the phone book and it'd sound funny and endearing. She also has a steely quality that Meg never ever possessed (Election and Highway). Add blonde and a smile that would light the Space Shuttle in orbit, and you have an unbeatable combination. I'll certainly be catching this Southern Belle.
