MTV MOVIE AWARDS DISS ARTY OSCARS WITH POULAR PICS

Hosted by Seann William Scott and Justin Timberlake, MTV awarded fan faves 'The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers', 'Spider-Man' and '8 Mile' with its irreverent top honours, completely ignoring Oscar's more cerebral picks on Saturday night.

The show airs Thursday night at 9 p.m. in the US and 8 p.m. Saturday night in the UK.

For the second year on the bounce, Peter Jackson's epic scored Best Movie leading the way with four golden popcorn trophies, including Best Action Sequence, On-screen Team (Elijah Wood and Sean Astin ) and Virtual Performance for schizophrenic villain Gollum--a new category created because of the increase of special-effects performers.

As such, the emaciated star of this award's show may not even hold a Screen Actor's Guild card. (Talking emaciated stars - Victoria Beckham with hubby made a guest appearance at the show.)

Lack of a SAG card and digital limitations notwithstanding, Gollum appeared at the Shrine Auditorium event to snatch his precious trophy from the hands of actor Andy Serkis, who's voice and movements were used by animators to bring the computer character to life.

In his Michael Moore -inspired acceptance speech Gollum went on to trash everyone involved in making the movie, MTV and the audience.

Also overcoming his virtual limitations was centuries old 'Star Wars' icon Yoda, who appeared on a giant screen to accept the award for Best Fight for his lightsaber battle opposite Christopher Lee .

'Hmmm. Grateful am I to this award receive. To win, I did not expect', said the little green guy. 'Promise myself cry I would not'.

He then went on to give props to Star Wars collaborators, including George Lucas , Chewbacca and Greedo, before being played off the stage.

Meanwhile, Eminem fuelled rumours that he's a digital creation of Shady Records. The rapper, who failed to appear to collect his trophies at the Oscars or Grammys this year, continued the no-show trend Saturday. He thanked viewers for his awards as Best Actor and Breakthrough Actor through a pre-taped video segment. 'I can't believe I beat Mariah for Glitter'.

Another twofer champ was Spidey babe Kirsten Dunst , who was on hand to accept her book-end awards for Best Actress and Best Kiss for her soggy smooch with Columbia Pictures' friendly neighbourhood superhero, Tobey Maguire.

Other winners Saturday: Jennifer Garner scoring Breakthrough Actress for her role as Elektra in 'Daredevil', which has also netted the actress her own spinoff (costar Ben Affleck , who was passed over, and former hubby Scott Foley were undoubtedly thrilled); Mike Meyers grabbing the award for Best Comedic Role in Austin Powers in 'Goldmember' and spooky chick Daveigh Chase winning for Best Villain as the possessed well-dweller in 'The Ring'.

In case you're wondering how you missed this three-hour fun fest, voted on by viewers and hosted by Sean William Scott and Justin Timberlake. Chill - the taped ceremony doesn't air until Thursday night at 9 p.m. in the US and 8 p.m. on Saturday in the UK complete with performances by 50 Cent, Pink and Russian lesbian duo t.a.t.u.
